Hand-printed science history trading cards...whence did they come?
In 2010, Kelly McElroy, Owen Curtsinger, Lindsey Stone and I celebrated our common love for science and self-publishing by releasing Hypothesis Now! which compiled our latest zines into one convenient package with a nice screen-printed cover and most pertinently, Kelly McElroy's Team Science trading cards. Of these, there were six: Carl Sagan, David Suzuki, Ruth Patrick, Jane Goodall, Jacques Cousteau & Bill Nye.
As we made plans to release another Hypotheses Now!, I set out to make a set of screen-printed trading cards that would come in booster packs, have different rarities, and generally would let me indulge in all my collectible card game fetishes. The design challenges were too exciting to pass up and even though it took us four years to release a new Hypothesis Now!, I was able to keep the dream alive and finally started printing the first set: Scientists vol.I in December 2012.
